Forza Horizon 3 is a racing video game set in an open world environment based in Australia, with the map said to be three times the size of the map in Forza Horizon 2, ranging from Surfers Paradise to Byron Bay. The game features a four-player co-operative multiplayer campaign. The game features cross-platform play, as it is a part of the Xbox Play Anywhere program.

Previous Forza Horizon games held the Horizon Festival with the main player as a participant who comes into the festival as a rookie with the goal of becoming champion. In Forza Horizon 3, the player this time is the boss. His job is to make this Horizon Festival the biggest show on Earth. As the boss, he can organize and customize events, hire or fire his partners in multiplayer, and even add events with the help of Horizon Blueprint, a new feature in the game.

The game will have at least over 350 cars, which is twice the amount seen in Forza Horizon 2.
